May, 2009Children's Cancer Fund (CCF) will host its 21st Annual "Beyond the Rainbow" Luncheon and Fashion Show, themed "Three Wishes for Hope, Health and Happiness," on Friday, April 24, 2009, at 11:30 a.m. (champagne reception and silent auction at 10:30 a.m.) in the Chantilly Ballroom of the Hilton Anatole Hotel. Honorary Co-Chairs Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach will join Luncheon Chair Lindy Berkley, along with an impressive lineup of celebrity escorts and local media (including Daryl and Diane Johnston, Drew Pearson, Rudy Gatlin, Scott Murray, members of the Dallas Cowboys, and more), to present 44 young cancer patients and 60 pediatric cancer survivors in a special runway show, sponsored by Fashion Presenter Dillard's. KDFW FOX 4 Anchors Steve Eagar and Clarice Tinsley will serve as Masters of Ceremonies at the event.
Founded in 1982 by a group of local parents whose children were being treated for cancer, Children's Cancer Fund has become one of the nation's leading fundraising groups in support of local research toward the treatment and prevention of childhood cancers. Among the programs supported by Children's Cancer Fund are the National Institutes of Health-funded Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Program at Children's Medical Center and the Children's Cancer Fund Comprehensive Center for Research in Pediatric Oncology, which is gaining a national reputation for its work in eradicating childhood cancers.
"I became involved with Children's Cancer Fund after looking for an organization to volunteer with that specifically dealt with pediatric cancer," said Luncheon Chair Lindy Berkley. "I am a survivor of Hodgkins Lymphoma, so I can relate to the children who can't fully enjoy school and focus on their grades without having to worry about their next round of chemotherapy. I love Children's Cancer Fund, not only because of my personal experience with cancer, but because I am a mother. This disease affects so many that everyone can relate to it in some way, but it is especially difficult to imagine a small child going through it. The 'Beyond the Rainbow' Luncheon and Fashion Show is Children's Cancer Fund's largest annual fundraiser for these brave kids who have endured so much, and I am honored to be a part of it this year."
Jewelry designer Matthew Trent has also designed an original pin for this year's event, intended to inspire hope. All of the children participating in the fashion show will receive this special silver pin, depicting a flower and clouds floating over a rainbow. A select number of pins will also be available for sale through Matthew Trent. This is the sixth year that the Uptown designer has donated an original pin to the luncheon.
"Cancer still remains the number one disease killer of children," said Children's Cancer Fund Director of Fund Development Jennifer Bolton. "We are constantly making strides in the search for a cure, but we still have a long way to go.
