Clinic Client Grateful for GRACE Griselle Estrada, MSN, RN - Education Nurse Manager
In 2007, L. came to the GRACE Clinic reporting a history of diabetes. "The first time I realized I had diabetes, I asked 'why?' " L. explains that both his parents had diabetes and even his brother was living with complications from this disease. "I was aware that I would probably be a diabetic. I was telling my brother to take care of himself before I even knew I had diabetes." He is grateful to the GRACE clinic staff and volunteers and reports that his life has changed because of the services and information he has been able to receive. Since coming to the clinic, L. has lost almost 50 pounds by making lifestyle changes in his activity level and diet. "I stopped the tortillas and the soft drinks." He also reduced the amount of fat in his diet and began using a bike for exercise. He adds, "When I realized I had diabetes, I knew I had to do what I was told...I had to do it for my family and my children...I love them...they need me."
Because of the generosity of our volunteers and the community, L. has been able to access dental care, a diabetes eye exam, diabetes education by a certified diabetes educator, labwork, medical care, medications, and support. When his bike was damaged due to an accident, L. was able to obtain another bicycle which was received at Donation Station.
"I am very grateful to everyone who has helped me- - God bless everyone- -it has made an impact on my life- -all the help I have received." L. adds that because his diabetes is under control, he feels better and happier. We want to thank everyone who helps us to carry out our mission in providing medical care to those in need within our community. If you would like to volunteer at the GRACE Outreach to Health Community Clinic, please contact Anna Shore, Volunteer Coordinator at 817-488-7009, ext. 119 or firstname.lastname@example.org
GRACE Supporter Goes for 40 at 40
GRACE supporter, Steve Isbell has decided to add a challenge to his 40th birthday which is May 10th. He will attempt to run 40 miles in 8 hours on the day before and hopes to raise money for GRACE at the same time. How this idea came about is a story best told by Steve himself, so click here to watch a short video explanation or click here to visit the website he has set up for the occasion.
We'd like to thank Steve and his family for being wonderful supporters of GRACE and for turning his personal challenge into an opportunity to help others!

| | Transitional Housing Welcomes New Volunteer
Deborah Lyons, MS Psych - TH Program Manager
Transitional Housing is delighted to welcome its latest volunteer: Handy-Man, Ken Little. He's only been with us for a couple of weeks but the Nash site is already looking better than ever! We admit that we may have held back just a little information when we described this "opportunity" to Ken but, even so, he's still with us and continues to whistle while he works. He's even making arrangements for the youth of St. Laurence Episcopal Church to join him in all the fun! Many thanks to Rusty Thigpen, as well, for getting Ken's wife to volunteer him for this position......
Important Reminder: Transitional Housing is desperately seeking good donor cars for our moms who need to get their children and themselves to and from school and work! Please help if you can! Thank you!
