Emergency Assistance: a True Emergency!
Pat Frosch, Director of Programs

GRACE Emergency AssistanceThe caseworkers in Emergency Assistance are seeing 60 - 80 people in need EACH DAY. At the first of each month, many need help with rent. For February, Emergency Assistance had over $6,000 budgeted to help with rent. That amount was given out to 26 families in the first 5 hours we were open on "Rent Day" (the last working day of January). After these 26 families were helped, we had to turn away an equal number (26 families) because we were out of funds.

When GRACE cannot help with rent or utilities, we always ask if a family needs food and we give a voucher to shop at our Food Pantry. The first week of February was a busy one at the Food Pantry too: through Thursday, 176 individuals (58 families) received food.

The families GRACE helps come to us because they have lost jobs, their work hours have been cut, they have had an emergency, or because they are at the end of their rope and just need someone to talk to. We help with their rent, utilities, a gas voucher for a doctor's appointment or a job interview, food and clothes, or we lend an ear just to listen. GRACE provides a multitude of services, sometimes the most important being that listening ear!

GRACE Pantry Update
Kenn Mingus, GRACE Food Pantry

GRACE Food PantrySo many of you have generously donated food items to the Pantry and we truly appreciate your support.  At the moment, the current supply of food products and personal hygiene items  in the Client Choice Pantry is sufficient to support, at most, two  week's worth of activity.  We do have some back up stock, but historically donations drop off after the holidays.  You may have read news accounts of area food banks requesting donations.  We are not any different.  We are also seeing a significant increase in client activity.  We certainly want to be in a position to take care of all our clients with dollars to purchase product or direct product donations.

The pantry is in short supply or out of the following items.

Food:
  • Ketchup
  • Crackers (boxed)
  • Refried Beans
  • Tuna
  • Canned Meat - (ham, roast beef, vienna sausage)
  • Canned Pasta
  • Kid's Cereal
  • Canned Fruit (cocktail and peaches)
  •
    Refrigerated or Frozen Foods:
  • Lunch meat (any)
  • Hamburger (1lbs packages)
  • Fresh Vegetables and Fruit
  •
    Hygiene Items:
  • Shampoo (#1 need)
  • Toothpaste
  • Deodorant
  • Disposable Razors
  • Laundry Soap (small box)
  •
Please remember that cash donations can be more advantageous for us because we are often able to buy many of these items at a substantially larger discount than is available to the average consumer. If you have any questions, please call us at 817-488-7009 x153 or 154.

Calling All Cars, Calling All Cars!
Deborah Lyons, MS Psych - Transitional Housing Program Manager

GRACE needs donated cars!Transitional Housing is in serious need of donated cars that are in good running condition.  Our clients need these cars in order to achieve their goals of bettering their lives and the lives of their children through increased education, employment skills, and physical and emotional development.  Without a car, there is no way for our moms to get their children and themselves to school, to work, and to medical appointments.

Please spread the word of this need.  If you do not have a car that you can donate, perhaps you have a neighbor who does.  Thank you!
