As part of Core critic-in-residence Taraneh Fazeli's on-going curatorial project, "Sick Time, Sleepy Time, Crip Time: Against Capitalisms Temporal Bullying," Lawndale will host two related events as part of the programming series "Warp and Weft of Care".

"Warp and Weft of Care" kicks off with a performance by artist Fia Backström on the evening of Saturday, April 8th. In "The Growth and its Perennials", she investigates the effects of barely-visible forces on the body by considering the oscillating line between self and other/self and material.

The speculative talk presented by Core critic-in-residence Ruslana Lichtzier will reflect on five historical cases spanning from the time of Pompeii's eruption to nowadays invention of "alternative facts." Through reading these events and their "missing objects" the talk will explore ignorance and hunger as generative forces within knowledge production.

In this expanded conversation, somewhere between reading and screening, curator Laura A. L. Wellen and poet Julio Serrano Echeverría touch on poetry, performance, and film to describe contemporary artistic concerns in Central America. Drawing from the works on view in One stone and the rain, they collaboratively explore the ways stones, fire, water, and wind play an active role in contemporary politics, recovery from historical trauma, and artistic processes in Guatemala.
