VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FEB. 3-5 IN AUSTIN FOR 2017 SPECIAL OLYMPICS TEXAS STATEWIDE WINTER GAMES
Special Olympics of Texas

January, 2017

Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) will host its 24th annual Winter Games, a statewide Bowling, Powerlifting and Volleyball competition for nearly 2,700 children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The event will commence with the Opening Ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 2 and the Games will run from Feb. 3-5 at several venues across the Central Texas area. Volunteers are heavily needed to assist with various duties at all competition events.

Bowling, which is SOTX’s second-most popular sport (only behind Track & Field), will be held at four venues across the Austin area:Dart Bowl, Highland Lanes, Westgate Lanes and Mel’s Lone Star Lanes (Georgetown). Those able to volunteer at any of these locations can choose to serve as a lane monitor or assist with presenting athletes with awards.

The Volleyball Competition at the Round Rock Sports Center will need volunteers to assist as scorekeepers, line-callers, ball shaggers and award presenters.

Assistance is also needed at Athlete Village, which will be housed in the Norris Conference Center. Volunteers at this venue will assist with running games, arts and crafts and serving snacks

A limited number of volunteer shifts remain for the Powerlifting Competition, which will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4 at Round Rock High School’s fieldhouse.
