The much anticipated 2016 Jeans & Jewels Gala raised more than $600,000 benefitting Northwest Assistance Ministries (NAM).

More than 400 guests celebrated the “Fiesta on the Río Grande, A Mission of Hope” at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016. The event honored Darlis and Tom Fuller, both long-time supporters of NAM. Carol and Mike Watford were this year’s Honorary Chairs.

The ballroom was decorated as a rustic Mexican market, with colorful mini-piñatas, vibrant decorations and lights and a painted backdrop of the Alamo. Guests enjoyed a true fiesta surrounded by fun, laughter and friends. This was the third and final event for this year’s Jeans & Jewels series which combined raised almost $700,000 for NAM.

“It was truly a night to remember,” said Carole Little, NAM’s President and CEO. “The funds collected during our annual Jeans & Jewels Gala are vital for the proper functioning of NAM’s operations and having such a large crowd celebrating with us and supporting the work that we do validates NAM’s mission of Neighbors Helping Neighbors—plus we had fun in doing so,” Little said.

Melissa Williams, news anchor from Fox 26 was this year’s Mistress of Ceremonies and Nolan Lehman was the auctioneer during the live auction. As part of the auction, guests excitedly put their bids in for items such as an African Safari, First Class United Airlines tickets to anywhere in the world, a George Strait signed guitar, Houston Texans Suite Party and the top selling experience being a Colorado Getaway that sold for $17,000!

The most impactful moment of the night was Stand Up for NAM—an on-the-spot appeal that allowed guests to fund the every-day operations of NAM’s Children’ Clinic. The appeal raised $110,860 in a matter of minutes. The generous contributions of all attendees ensured that NAM’s Children’s Clinic will continue providing quality medical care for hundreds of families in the Houston area. The donations received will also help fund several initiatives by the Children’s Clinic such as Shot Blitz, the Healthy Living Program and the Reach Out and Read program.

“Thank you to all of our supporters, donors, staff, volunteers and the community for making this year’s Jeans & Jewels one of our best ones yet,” Little said. We are truly grateful for your continued support and for making a difference in so many people’s lives. We couldn’t to what we do without you,” she added.

The next event benefitting NAM will be the 2017 NAM Endowment Dinner. It will take place on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott. This upcoming event will feature Mary C. Neal, MD, the author of the New York Times best-selling book, “To Heaven and Back.”

Northwest Assistance Ministries is a non-profit, community-based social service agency that strives to meet basic human needs through Neighbors Helping Neighbors. NAM provides assistance in areas such as food, shelter, health, education and domestic violence awareness. During fiscal year 2015-2016 NAM touched the lives of more than 114,000 people through its many programs and services.
