AFFORDABLE HOUSING ADVOCATE SLATED TO SPEAK AT HOUSTON HABITATíS ANNUAL BREAKFAST
Houston Habitat for Humanity

October, 2016

“We can all agree on one thing, and that’s that everybody ought to have a decent place to live.” Jim Pate is known for being a straight-shooter--with a heart for the Habitat mission. He’s served as the New Orleans Habitat Executive Director for over 16 years. He’s seen it all—from the devastating impact of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 to the 2016 August floods in Baton Rouge. Jim’s stepped up to the plate, leading the volunteer efforts to help Louisiana homeowners recover and rebuild.

“There are some people who have literally lost everything—their car, home possessions, family members. But people are going to come back. We’ve got to make sure they have houses to live in! ” Jim said, following Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

He’s a fierce advocate for affordable housing. One of New Orleans Habitat’s latest efforts is the collaboration with Covenant House—providing affordable rentals for at-risk youth, including those who are aging out of foster care. “Because everyone deserves a decent place to live and not everyone is willing or able to own a home—it is imperative that affordable, safe rentals be a part of our mission.”

Houstonians will have a unique opportunity to meet and talk with this remarkable affordable housing advocate, Jim Pate at Houston Habitat’s Annual Build a Dream Breakfast Wednesday, October 26th at 7:30am. The breakfast will be held at the Junior League of Houston Ballroom, 1811 Briar Oaks Lane, Houston, TX, 77027. This is an unforgettable event and message that could help empower sustainable change within your own community.
