What are your greatest personal values in life? For Christians, two critical areas of values are God and family.
Scripture places value on the family. We are taught the importance of investing our time and efforts in our families specifically in the lives of our children and grandchildren. Proverbs 22:6 states:
“Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.” [NKJV]
Instruction in Scripture also provides details on how families should relate to one another and live life together. We are not to take them for granted, but consider them a blessing from God.
Scripture places vast importance on investing in the Kingdom of God. The parable of the pearl in Matthew 13:45-46 demonstrates this for us:
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.”[NKJV]
The merchant was willing to sell everything and invest in that one pearl! The greatest pursuit that we can invest in this life is God’s Kingdom. Surrendering all for the sake of investing in God's Kingdom and one's relationship with Him is at the heart of true Christianity.
We invest in the Kingdom with our time, talents and treasures. As we specifically invest our treasures in the Kingdom through our tithes and offerings now, will we also invest in the Kingdom later through providing at least a tithe of our estates and leaving a legacy for ministry?
