SIX DALLAS-AREA GOLFERS INVITED TO MACAU TO COMPETE IN SPECIAL OLYMPICS GOLF MASTERS

Six Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) athletes from the Greater Dallas area have been invited to represent the United States in Macau, China fromApril 27-29 at the 2016 Special Olympics Golf Masters. The fifth annual event, held at Caesars Golf Macau, is a test of skill designed to give Special Olympics golfers from around the world a chance to compete in an international tournament setting.

 

Chazney Curiel (Dallas), Shawn Coleman (Seagoville), Michael Grimes (Richardson), Cheryl Simmons (Wylie), Doug Sullivan (Plano) and Jeremy Turner (Cedar Hill) are six of the nine athletes that will comprise Special Olympics USA. The team is coached by Marty Smith.

 

The team will depart Dallas-Fort Worth on Saturday morning, April 23 and will arrive in Macau on Sunday, April 24.  Competition will tee off on Wednesday, April 27 and run through Friday, April 29.  

 

Before the competitive portion gets underway, the athletes will attend a conference and multiple workshops on Monday and Tuesday. They will have the chance to listen to Mr. Willi Lemke, who is the UN Special Adviser on Sport for Development and Peace. Athletes will also get a presentation about Leadership and Workforce Development from Mr. Grant R. Bowie. Workshops will feature many tutorials, including: Canvas Painting, Car Model Painting and Cotton Bag Art.

 

Special Olympics athletes will be awarded in each level of competition. Ability levels afford each athlete the opportunity to showcase their skills.

 

Curiel, Grimes and Simmons will tee off in Level 1 and 2 action, while Coleman, Sullivan and Turner will play in the Level 5 event.
