Special Olympics Texas to Host ĎA Very Special Celebrationí for Grand Opening of New Chapter Headquarters on Dec. 4
Special Olympics Texas

November, 2015

A dream has become a reality for Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) and the organization is inviting the community to come revel in its latest milestone at ‘A Very Special Celebration’. On Friday, Dec. 4 from 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., SOTX will host a “red tie” affair to celebrate the public grand opening of its brand new state-of-the-art chapter headquarters– The Christi Stanley Building – located at 1804 Rutherford Lane in Austin. The event, which will be held at the new facility, will be a night filled with fun and festivity, including hors d’oeuvres, beer, wine, live and silent auctions.

Tickets to attend include two drink tickets and are $50 per person. Proceeds will go to SOTX’s Capital Campaign.

The evening opens with a cocktail hour and silent auction from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., followed by a live auction and the unveiling of Christi Stanley’s portrait in the atrium, in lieu of a ribbon-cutting. During the cocktail hour, attendees will have the opportunity to take a tour of The Christi Stanley Building and be able to view available naming opportunities.

After nearly 13 years of renting space to house its headquarter offices in the business complex on Chevy Chase Dr. in Central Austin, SOTX and White Construction Company broke ground on SOTX’s new home in April 2014 and completed the project in May 2015.

The $7.1 million facility was funded by donors, largely in part to Amber and Steve Mostyn, who provided a gift of $2 million in honor of Amber’s mother Christi Stanley, whom the building is named for. The GEO Group also contributed a generous $2 million toward the project.

By making the decision to construct a permanent building instead of continuing to pay rent at a vastly increasing rate, SOTX is now in a position to build financial equity in the land and building, while being able to maximize the impact of all donations on its ability to support program services.

The Christi Stanley Building was designed with athletes, families and coaches in mind and proudly reflects SOTX’s heritage. It features high-tech conference, training and meeting rooms with adequate space for public and private events, as well as ample on-site storage for competition equipment and supplies.
