Managing for Pollinators: Bees in Texas - Wildlife For LunchWebinar
Texas Wildlife Association

October, 2015

Join TWA and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension for the next
Wildlife for Lunch webinar!

When: Thursday, October 15th, 2015, from noon to 1:00 pm CST

Presented by: Dr. Ben Hutchins

Topic: Managing for Pollinators - Bees in Texas

Pollinating insects are incredibly important for the ecological and economic well-being of Texas.  The bulk of animal-mediated pollination is carried out by bees, but numerous threats have adversely impacted populations of both native and non-native bee species. However, management practices based on an understanding of basic bee biology can have a positive impact on native-bee populations in Texas.  Native Texas bee species, their habitat, and ecological requirements are briefly introduced.   General land management practices that benefit native-pollinators are discussed, emphasizing activities that augment food and nesting resources. Texas Parks and Wildlife encourages interested individuals to document native bees through the free smart-phone iNaturalist app. This tool is also useful for aiding in the identification of bee species.
