ABILITY CONNECTION HOSTS SAVVY WOMEN RESPITE RECEPTION
DALLAS, Texas --Mothers and women caregivers of those with special needs will be celebrated on Thursday, June 18, at a Savvy Women reception hosted by Ability Connection in Dallas. The event, which includes cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, raffle and a speaker, will be held at the Tower Club from 6 to 8 p.m.
Individual tickets are $50 and sponsorships range from $500 to $2,500.
Dawn Neufeld, a local philanthropist and former cast member of VH1’s Football Wives, is the speaker for the evening. She will discuss how she’s learned to balance being a fulltime working mother of a child with special needs. Her son Will was diagnosed with the spectrum disorder when he was three years old. Her focus will be the importance of taking good care of the caregiver.
The Savvy Women event is designed to be a mini respite break for caregivers. Parenting is a difficult job and every parent can benefit from time away from the responsibilities of caring for a child. Being the best parent possible requires rest and relaxation. Respite can help strengthen the whole family and lead to a decrease in stress and an increase in the family’s health and well being. Respite is a service facilitated by Ability Connection.
A native Californian, Dawn was bitten by the acting bug at an early age. During college, she balanced her academic pursuits with modeling and acting. She developed an interest in media and journalism and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in communication studies with a women’s studies minor from UCLA. She went on to earn a law degree from UC Davis School of Law and is licensed to practice in both California and Texas. She moved to Buffalo, New York where her husband Ryan played for the NFL’s Buffalo Bills. The Neufelds moved home to Frisco in 2008. Dawn most recently hosted The Broadcast, a morning entertainment and talk show airing in several markets in Texas and Take Charge Parenting – a weekly half-hour parenting show featuring the “Kid’s Doctor” Sue Hubbard. Dawn is the reigning Mrs. Frisco and recently competed in the Mrs. Texas America pageant for the seventh time.
