San Antonio Law Enforcement Officers to Escort Flame of Hope to Special Olympics Texas Summer Games in Arlington
Special Olympics Unified Relay Across America

Law enforcement officers from across South Texas will gather in San Antonio on Thursday, May 21, for a short ceremony before setting off with the Flame of Hope to the Special Olympics Texas Summer Games in Arlington.

Members of the Law Enforcement Torch Run will participate in a short ceremony beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Coca-Cola Bottling Company, 1 Coca-Cola Place, in San Antonio. 

Bexar County Sheriff Susan Pamerleau, Fort Sam Houston, Security Forces 502d Squadron Captain Julie Roloson and Special Olympics Texas athlete Scott Mena will discuss the importance of the Law Enforcement Torch Run to Special Olympics Texas athletes, families, coaches and volunteers.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, San Antonio-area Torch Runners will take off for Arlington. Their route will take them north along I-35 toward the Texas Roadhouse at 13830 N IH 35, in Live Oak, where the Torch Runners will stop for lunch.

About the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR)

The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) is Special Olympics' largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle.  In Texas, the Law Enforcement Torch Run began in 1985 and had grown to become one of the largest in the nation.  In the last decade, Torch Run has contributed over $11 million through the dedication of thousands of law enforcement personnel fundraising on behalf of SOTX.  The support provided by this dedicated group has contributed greatly to programs in local communities, which involve more than 53,400 athletes with intellectual disabilities throughout the state.
