UTSA Names Kathryn Funk-Baxter Vice President for Business Affairs

The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) today announced the selection of Kathryn Funk-Baxter, a 1988 Master’s of Business Administration graduate of UTSA, as Vice President for Business Affairs, effective April 27.

 

As vice president for business affairs, Funk-Baxter will oversee six divisions and 31 departments at the university including administration, facilities, financial affairs, human resources, university police and UTShare-PeopleSoft.

 

Funk-Baxter currently serves as Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Since joining A&M-Corpus Christi in 1996, she has also served as Sr. Associate Vice President for Finance and Administration, Associate Vice President for Finance and Administration, and in a number of other financial-related positions with progressively increasing responsibilities.

 

“Kathy brings a wealth of financial management and budget expertise to UTSA that will support our mission of educational excellence and world class research,” said UTSA President Ricardo Romo. “She shares our determination for reaching Tier One status and understands the vital role of business affairs in helping UTSA achieve recognition as a premier research institution.”

 

During her time at A&M-Corpus Christi, Funk-Baxter also served as chair of the compliance, space management, and parking and transportation committees, a member of the strategic planning leadership team, chair of the facilities use task force, and as chair or a member of several search committees for deans, directors and executive leadership positions.

 

“As we conducted a nationwide search for a vice president with the experience, dedication and commitment to help advance UTSA, it became increasingly clear that Kathy is the kind of top-tier leader who is passionate about supporting excellence among faculty, staff and students,” said John Frederick, UTSA provost and vice president of academic affairs, and chair of the search committee. “She has a strong understanding of how to align resources to university priorities, a strength that will undoubtedly help UTSA in its path to Tier One.”

 

“UTSA is an exceptional university and I am proud to have an opportunity to give back to the university that contributed so much to my education and professional success,” said Funk-Baxter. “I am so excited to return home to San Antonio and rejoin the Roadrunner family.”

 

Funk-Baxter graduated from McCollum High School, received her Bachelor of Business Administration (Honors) degree from Southwest Texas State University in 1979 and her Master of Business Administration degree from The University of Texas at San Antonio in 1988.   

 

Funk-Baxter worked in San Antonio from 1981 to 1990 for Valero Energy and Alamo Savings and Loan. She will be joined by her husband and mother in returning to San Antonio. Her brother and his family also live in San Antonio.
