Exploring Notan, the Dark-Light Principle of Design Workshop

with JooYoung Choi
Saturday, February 7, 2015
1:30 - 4:30 PM
Free - Registration required as space is limited to 10 participants

Notan is both a method for organizing light and dark values within the picture plane, and a philosophical mindset of how one can use the concept of yin and yang to balance or create tension within a composition. Through this workshop participants will receive a basic knowledge of Notan, and get busy learning with hands on activities to see how this method of organizing light and dark shapes can be applied to their own work and life.

All are invited, but please keep in mind this program has been created with those involved in the visual arts in mind. All ages are welcome, but participants must be able to use a utility knife or have someone accompany them who can.

Please bring: x-acto knife, scissors, and a piece of hard board or cutting mat you can cut on top of (a piece of hard cardboard would suffice). Glue and paper will be provided.
