Texas Sculpture Group Artist Talks & Bill FitzGibbons Performance
Thursday, September 11, 2014

6-8 PM

Right Side / Wrong Side embodies Bill FitzGibbon's approach to visual art as social sculpture. His piece is a sculptural response to the geo-political environment constructed by humans that defies the common human spirit. This border architecture is being imposed on two cultures that are more similar than they are different. Which side is right, which is wrong? As a sculptural statement the piece imposes itself in the gallery- coaxing the viewer to experience the gravity of the political statement created by our government.

The performance will be preceded by short artist talks from Texas Sculpture Group members with work on view in the exhibition Texas Sculpture Group 2014: A Panoramic View.

Texas Sculpture Group 2014: A Panoramic View

Curated by James Surls
In memory of TSG member artists, Lee Littlefield, Bert Long, Jr. and Damian Priour
John M. O'Quinn Gallery, Grace R. Cavnar Gallery and Cecily E. Horton Gallery, Project Space and Mary E. Bawden Sculpture Garden

The Texas Sculpture Group presents an exhibition illustrating the excellent quality and diversity of contemporary sculpture in Texas curated by James Surls. The exhibition is dedicated to and in memory of late TSG Members Lee Littlefield, Bert Long, Jr. and Damian Priour, whose work is also featured in the exhibition. With eighty plus artist members, the exhibition is an opportunity for viewers to see the breadth of sculptural practice and diversity of media taking place all over the state: from bronze casting to video and performance, from site specific installations to light and sound to craft bombing. The exhibition acts as a catalyst for a conversation about what is Texas sculpture and the evolution that technology has had on contemporary practice.
