UTSA trainings help entrepreneurs strengthen their businesses

The San Antonio Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at UTSA invites small business owners and entrepreneurs in San Antonio and surrounding counties to attend its many free and low-cost training sessions. The San Antonio SBDC December training schedule includes:

 

>> Social Media Roundtable

Learn what social media can do for your business at this free roundtable. Discuss what to consider in developing a social media strategy and which channels work for your particular business. Topics include how to increase traffic to your website, how to market your business, how to measure the effectiveness of your social media strategy and monitor your online presence. (This roundtable is highly interactive; participants should come prepared to share their ideas and learn from others’ strategies.)

>> Business Start-Up Essentials
Turn your business idea into a reality by asking all of your questions at this workshop. SBDC business advisers will present the basics of starting a new business. Discussion topics include evaluating your business idea, a business' legal structure and name, local, state and federal resources and requirements and business start-up costs. Participants will receive a Small Business Resource Guide and other resources to help them get started.

Participants in this workshop will learn how to write a business plan and will begin to write a plan of their own. They will receive an electronic template and resources to guide them through the business planning process. Discussion topics will include business plan basics, feasibility, the structure of a business plan structure and financial analysis.

The San Antonio SBDC is a part of the South-West Texas Border SBDC Network and the UTSA Institute for Economic Development. It is one of the largest and most established centers within the network. In addition to serving San Antonio, it serves 10 surrounding counties including Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Kendall, Kerr, Medina and Wilson.

 

In 2012, the SBDC served more than 5,300 businesses and provided training to more than 3,900 participants, while assisting clients in obtaining more than $54 million in capital. This capital infusion resulted in the creation of 1,081 new jobs and the retention of 991 existing jobs in San Antonio and the surrounding communities.
