The San Antonio Small Business Development Center (SBDC) invites small business owners and entrepreneurs in San Antonio and its surrounding counties to attend one of its many free and low-cost training sessions. The San Antonio SBDC’s July training schedule includes:

 

 

Business Start-Up Essentials

Are you ready to turn your business idea into a reality? Ask all of your questions at this workshop. SBDC business advisors will present the basics of starting a new business. Discussion topics include evaluating your business idea; a business’ legal structure and name; local, state and federal resources and requirements; and business start-up costs. Participants will receive a Small Business Resource Guide and other resources to help them get started.

Social Media Roundtable

Is your business social? From blogging to Facebook, LinkedIn to Twitter, and Yelp to YouTube, learn what social media can and cannot do for your business. This roundtable will address the social media channels that work best for each business. Topics will include how to develop and evaluate your social media strategy, how to increase traffic to your website, how to market your business and how monitor your online presence. This roundtable is highly interactive; participants should come prepared to share their ideas and learn from others’ strategies.

The Business Plan

Participants in this workshop will learn how to write a business plan and will begin to write a plan of their own. They will receive an electronic template and resources to guide them through the business planning process. Discussion topics will include business plan basics, feasibility, the structure of a business plan structure and financial analysis.

Spark of Genius Business Camp

You know those great talks you have in the hallway at so many conferences and events? This is a whole day made of those moments. Peer-led discussions will take place throughout the day. Topics addressed will be submitted and voted on by participants prior to the seminar’s start. Popular topics include technology, marketing, leadership, time management, mobile tools, email and the local media. The cost of attending Spark of Genius is your participation. The seminar was created by Benn & Lani Rosales of AGBeat.com, home of Spark of Genius Camp, a day devoted to practical business survival strategies.

The San Antonio SBDC is a part of the South-West Texas Border SBDC Network and the UTSA Institute for Economic Development. It is one of the largest and most established centers within the network. In addition to serving San Antonio, it serves 10 surrounding counties including Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Kendall, Kerr, Medina and Wilson.

 

In 2012, the SBDC served more than 5,300 businesses and provided training to more than 3,900 participants while assisting clients in obtaining more than $54 million in capital. This capital infusion resulted in the creation of 1,081 new jobs and the retention of 991 existing jobs in San Antonio and the surrounding communities.
