Art Bra Austin Returns to the Runway for its 7th Annual Breast Cancer Benefit
The Breast Cancer Resource Centers of Texas (BCRC)

May, 2013

The Breast Cancer Resource Centers of Texas (BCRC) will return to the Austin Music Hall to feature its annual night of charity, fashion and art with the seventh annual Art Bra Austin.

The event will be held on Saturday, May 18th from 7:00pm-11:00pm and will feature a runway show and art bra auction pieces designed local artists, designers, friends, and supporters of the BCRC. Each inspired, handmade bra will be modeled by BCRC's clients--breast cancer survivors and those currently undergoing treatment.

“We are so excited for the opportunity to host our 7th Annual Art Bra Austin and unveil this year’s incredible designs,” says BCRC Client and current Executive Director, Ray Anne Evans. “The event raises a quarter of our budget and helps us achieve our vision that no one face breast cancer alone!”

This year’s featured Art Bras include designs by Austin ceramist, Doug Brooks, Austin artist Mayo Baca, Austin mosaic artists Dianne Sonnenberg and Monica Meadows, and jewelry designer to the stars, Kendra Scott.

The show will kick off with a modern performance piece by BCRC client and three-year survivor, Sharon Marroquin. The production, titled The Materiality of Impermanence, is an interpretation of her own emotions and fight with breast cancer. It originally premiered in March 2012 to sold-out crowds at the Rollins Studio Theatre at The Long Center for the Performing Arts and was honored with awards for Best Dance Concert and Best Dancer from the Austin Arts Critics’ Table.

Art Bra Austin guests can easily follow event details with this year’s mobile app, Art Bra ATX.  The mobile event program can be downloaded for free in the Apple and Google app stores beginning May 3, 2103. The app features profiles of all participating artists, models, sponsors, and restaurateurs, and info about the Official After Party hosted by Molotov and Deep Eddy Vodka.

All proceeds from the event will benefit The Breast Cancer Resource Centers of Texas. Sponsorship and event details can be found at the event’s website, www.artbraaustin.org. Streaming updates and promotions will be available on the event’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/BCRCofTexas and Twitter page, www.twitter.com/BCRCofTexas.

Guests will enjoy tastes from local restaurants including Christen's Gourmet Pralines, Cornucopia, Cover 3, Eddie V's Prime Seafood, The Frisco, J.Black's Feel Good Lounge & Kitchen, North, North by Northwest, Opal Divine's and Whole Foods.

Art Bra Austin is made possible by local foundations and businesses including Signature Sponsor The Linda P. Acosta Foundation; Premiere Sponsor Texas Oncology & Texas Breast Specialist, as well as other major sponsors including Austin Cancer Centers, Breast Reconstruction Associates, Hunter Industries, Ltd., Brandy & Brandon Moore, Alice and Robert York on behalf of Rehab and Conditioning for Animals, Jean Edwards Holt, MD of Sonterra Ophthalmology, and Seton Healthcare Family.
