INTRODUCTION to HISTORICAL FICTION
with Intermationally-Recognized Novelist
Patricia Falvey

Saturday, April 6, 10 AM-12:30 PM

10809 Garland Road, Dallas 75218

This workshop will focus on the challenges in writing in this particular genre,
notably "the Big Five":  Authenticity of Place, Character, and Dialogue; Historical
Context; and Research. Writers will weigh the quantity of historical detail against
the elements of fiction, and work on putting the story first, while striving for
a compelling sense of history. Perfect "companion"

piece for upcoming workshop with Ann McCutchan [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001-lj27YZdPguALi76c7pPg5Zo-apsh9Owam5j4mJMHqVK4I0JnJSBOe6N1c0I-ZR4iOAZiFJy8lepI-_3gPcJ55MELWncFy1_HJJpifV2asZ8YEllVddP114AK9Zf-jj-guh4rjfkg2q_9Nv-TxiKkj4WDqB5uGm3]
(see "bundle prices" for members).  For all levels, beginning to advanced.

is a frequent speaker at bookclubs around the country and has led numerous workshops.
Her first novel, The Yellow House, was published in 2010, and her second novel,
The Linen Queen [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001-lj27YZdPgsxnX019JMoMVd5L0tIY-eamdhWcaJen7-urUWnLlg_-rDzaYpSwB_iYEOL13k7HE8lMetjYtx4bGbObe4uCJCNPKvVSncF3JntmwM5VGyO8OyyQRL22gM1gUnn3MwA1oRb9aDHD-ymCQ==],
came out last year.

Praise for THE LINEN QUEEN: "... deftly rides the line between a fervently romantic
love story and a heartfelt love letter to Northern Ireland."

About THE YELLOW HOUSE: "This novel delivers the best of both worlds: secrets, intrigue
and surprising twists will keep readers flipping the pages, while Falvey's insight
and poetic writing tugs at the heartstrings of the most cynical audiences."
