Abilene Philharmonic Presents Masterworks II that will “Glow in the Dark”
Abilene Philharmonic

October, 2012

On October 27th, the Abilene Philharmonic will present Polovtsian Dances by Borodin, Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A minor and Symphony No. 5 by Prokofiev in Masterworks II. Celebrating 62 years of high quality professional music, the Abilene Philharmonic continues to promote talented guest artists and emotionally moving pieces. We are here to enrich the lives of the community by demonstrating orchestral talent unseen anywhere else.

The concert features guest artist Alexander Schimpf who will perform Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A minor. Ever since Alexander Schimpf won both the 2008 German Music Competition and the 2009 International Beethoven Competition in Vienna, and now with his victory in Cleveland, he is becoming recognized as a rising young-generation artist, now regularly invited to perform around the world.

The Abilene Philharmonic will also have its second meeting of the Glow in the Dark Club at this concert. The Glow in the Dark Club is a designated section of Abilene Civic Center Hall, where audiences can bring their laptops, iPhones or iPads, and go online to a secure site that contains material which will enhance the musical experience and add commentary in real-time during the concert.

Concert commentary only covers Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5. This commentary includes an informative, musical guide that provides additional information on the composer, history of the piece and insight into the world of classical music all while the orchestra performs the piece. These real-time program notes will be displayed online and can be viewed through complimentary access to high-speed wireless internet in the theater--digitizing the traditional concert hall experience.

Glow in the Dark Club tickets are $15 and may be purchased by calling the Philharmonic Box Office at 325-677-6710 and mentioning, “Glow in the Dark.” At that time, you will be given instructions how to access the content.

Student Rush does not apply to the Glow in the Dark Club. The concert sponsor for the evening is Pete & Karen Renick. Super sponsors are TownSquare Media. Guest artist support provided by Hardin-Simmons University.

Season tickets are on sale now. Single tickets are $25 and $10. Student Rush is available to college students at the door one hour in advance with ID. Rush tickets are $5.00, cash or check ONLY.
