It is my honor to announce that Bear Orphanage will be called Dorfman Bear Orphanage! Mr. Louis Dorfman, a long time friend, supporter and contributor has devoted himself to the welfare of the sanctuary and all the animals for the last 16 years. Not only has he supported the sanctuary, but he has given his time as the Animal Behaviorist to help provide all the animals the best quality of life possible here at the International Exotic Animal Sanctuary and also serves as Chairman of the Board Directors. Without Mr. Dorfman’s generosity and support the Dorfman Bear Orphanage would have only been a dream. Now it is a natural habitat on 10 acres and home to 11 orphaned bears that have a wonderful life thanks to a man that all animals call Friend!

more a cunning thing, but very few a generous thing.”
It’s Project Season!
Summer is always a wonderful season to get things done here at IEAS, and the past month has been proof of that. From rebuilding pools to running new mister lines, Sanctuary staff and interns have been staying busy with projects, each one with the ultimate goal of making the animal residents’ lives even better!
One of the projects we’ve completed was done because YOU requested it! On summer tours, visitors always loved that the animals had cool mist to keep them comfortable in the Texas heat, but we often heard requests for misters that tour goers could cool off in. In the past month, we have equipped FOUR separate locations with “people misters!” So far, they’ve been a big hit, allowing visitors to cool off as they meet the IEAS animals, and we have to admit, it was a great idea (WE love them just as much as tour goers), so thanks for the suggestion!
In the past month, interns also got their hands dirty mortaring and even building pools and waterfalls. In addition to be a great addition to a resume, this experience has helped them dive into environmental enrichment and learn more about what it takes to provide a proper and fulfilling habitat for these animals!
It is times like these that remind us that without your generous support and care for the animals of IEAS, projects and developments like these would not be possible.
Barbara is a loving serval, particularly with her caracal companion, Billy. She is at her happiest when she is snuggled up to spend an afternoon relaxing in the shade with him. She does, however, also enjoy time spent with trusted human friends, coming over to the fence to lie down and visit!
