is the author of four acclaimed books of poetry: The Mud Actor, Soul Make a Path
through Shouting, Beautiful Signor, and More Than Peace and Cypresses. His fifth
book, The Crossed-Out Swastika, and a translation manuscript, Still Life with Children:
Selected Poems of Francesc Parcerisas, are forthcoming. He is a tenured Professor
of English at Texas State University-San Marcos and has served on the faculty of
Cave Canem, the African American Poets Workshop.

writing in Houston's public and private schools, hospitals, and museums.  He recently
received his Master of Fine Arts in Fiction from Warren Wilson College, and his 
stories have appeared in Under Hwy 99, Pear Noir!, and Pilot Project 7.

New FAMILY Programming at the Crown Collection of Asian Art!

Families! Join us this Saturday, 5/12, from 12-1 PM at the Crow Collection of Asian
Art for our brand new Family Writing Workshop.  Using pieces from the Crow Collection's
exhibitions, Evan Cleveland will lead families in a creative writing exercise.  
This workshop is great for all ages, provided parents participate with their children.
The cost is only $10 per family, and we'd love to have yours join us!

The Western Gothic," facilitated by Jim Dolan

Join various members of The Writer's Garret community as we celebrate Texas Writers
Month with an open and lively discussion on the work of Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist
and transplanted Texan Cormac McCarthy (All the Pretty Horses, No Country for Old
Men, The Road).

JIM DOLAN is a longtime member of The Writer's Garret and is currently enrolled 
in the Writers' Community and Mentorship Program (CAMP) at the Professional Level.
He is a poet, fiction writer, columnist for Texas Lawyer magazine, and psychotherapist
in private practice. He discovered McCarthy in the early 90s and has been deeply
moved by his writing ever since.
