32nd ANNUAL DFW PHILANTHROPY CONFERENCE PROMOTES INNOVATION

Economic woes and national tax policy debates reflect nonprofits’
vulnerability when raising funds to meet community needs that have also spiked during the long recession. North Texas professional
education for fundraisers will strengthen staff, executives and volunteers of the region’s nonprofits, preparing them to meet current
and future challenges.
 
Collaborating for a 32nd year, the Dallas and Fort Worth chapters of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) present the DFW Philanthropy Conference –Innovative Fundraising: Work Smarter, Not Harder-- on Friday, June 8, 2012,
from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Arlington Convention Center in Arlington, TX.
Details for the 2012 DFW Philanthropy Conference are on the website: DFWPhilanthropyConference.com. Early bird registration through May 21, 2012, offers discounts to members, non-members and groups. Online registration will remain open through June 1, 2012. Applications for conference scholarships will be accepted through April 27, 2012. In conjunction with the conference, the DFW AFP chapters will sponsor their annual CFRE Review Course on June 6 and 7, for fundraising / development professionals seeking the credential of Certified Fundraising Executive.
Speakers include national and statewide experts focusing on generating innovative techniques for increasing donations. Eight tracks for fundraising professionals and other nonprofit leaders offer content for the novice to the seasoned practitioner. More than 30 breakout sessions presented by regional nonprofit specialists cover topics like Social Media Practices for Planned Gifts, Building Relationships With Diverse Audiences, An Introduction to Social Enterprise, Strategic Thinking and Major Gifts, and What Donors Really Want. The keynote session features national expert Tom Ahern, author of several books on fundraising, including Seeing Through A Donor’s Eyes and Keep Your Donors: The Guide to Better Communications and Stronger Relationships. Ahern will speak on energizing board members and becoming more donor-centric. Debbie Moffett of Texas’ OneStar Foundation also
offers a general session on the Texas Connector Project and ways nonprofits can innovatively use TCP data to support their missions.

An area for exhibitors will feature commercial and association partners that serve DFW’s nonprofit sector, including featured
sponsors Omni Hotels & Resorts and Clarkson Davis, along with vendors like M. Gale & Associates, Blackbaud, The Whitestone
Group, More Cabbage, Renaissance Hotels, the Texas Association for Nonprofit Organizations (TANO), the Funding Information
Center of Fort Worth, and the Center for Nonprofit Management in Dallas. Attendees can learn more about these regional resources
during breaks between sessions and can meet colleagues during the networking luncheon, which is included in the conference fee.
“So many fundraisers and other nonprofit professionals have their heads down all year, striving to raise funds for
organizations that serve and enrich the community,” says Jennifer Hawthorne, 2012 chair of the DFW Philanthropy Conference
Planning Committee. “These folks can rely on the Dallas and Fort Worth AFP chapters’ annual collaboration for refreshing and
essential continuing professional education. Our aim is to jump-start their efforts to implement innovative approaches. We want them
to be successful in raising those critical dollars.”
