Sunday Jazz at the Witte Dazzles in its Eighth Season

It’s time to pull out the lawn chairs and blankets because Sunday Jazz at the Witte has returned! Now in its eighth season, Sunday Jazz at the Witte showcases the musical talents of local jazz bands on thesecond Sunday of the month*April through November from 4-7 p.m.* The University of Incarnate Word Jazz Ensemble will play the inaugural concert on April 8.

 

 

            Bring the entire family and enjoy a relaxing afternoon of jazz and fresh air in the shady Witte courtyard. Food, beverages and signature margaritas will be available for purchase, provided by Picante Grill. Arrive early to claim a great spot! Museum galleries close at 5 p.m., however the H-E-B Science Treehouse will remain open until 7 p.m.

 

 

On May 13 join The Three Divas for a special Mother’s Day performance featuring Bett Butler, Joan Carroll and Katherine ‘Katchie’ Cartwright in a musical get-together of encountered instrumental rhythms. Their smooth voices accompanied by instrumental rhythms will send you back to the times of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Miles Davis. This special performance is a part of the Year of Jazz, a citywide celebration of jazz. For more information visit YearOfJazz.org.

 

 

The South Texas Jazz Quartet will perform on June 10. The Quartet was founded in 2009 by pianist and conductor, Dr. Brent Watkins. Bringing a jazzy country feel, they dazzle audiences with songs influenced by musical greats like Duke Ellington, Willie Nelson and Bob Wills.

 

 

Don’t miss The Mission City Hot Rhythm Cats on July 8. These cool cats will have you smiling and tapping your toes when they perform. The Cats specialize in early, classic jazz and maintain a repertoire of material from the big band swing era of the 1930s and 1940s.

 

 

Austin based composer and bandleader, Graham Reynolds and the Golden Arm Trio will perform August 12, delivering their unique and quirky sounds in spades. Together for over 20 years, Graham Reynolds and the Golden Arm Trio have wowed audiences all over America.

 

 

Enjoy the outdoors on September 9 while listing to the wonderful music from John Magaldi & the Primetime Jazz Orchestra. John Magaldi, saxophonist, will lead the orchestra and create a divine atmosphere for friends and family.

 

 

Appearing everywhere from burger joints, to concert halls, this rock, Tejano and country jazz singer, will amaze you on October 28Ken Slavin is an exciting and naturally gifted singer and entertainer who draws crowds by the droves. Come sit out in the courtyard and enjoy his talent with us. Please note that this concert is on the fourth Sunday of the month, and not the second. Additionally, this concert will is scheduled from 3 – 6 p.m.*

 

 

Henry Brun & the Latin Playerz is an ensemble comprised of some of the most talented Jazz and Latin Jazz musicians in the southern region of the United States.  Henry Brun and the Latin Playerz will close the season November 11.
