|Championship Basketball Returned to San Antonio|
|Congratulations to the Shaw University Bears, 2012 NCAA DII Women’s Basketball champions! Their overtime victory over Ashland University capped a week of community outreach and some exciting basketball games at St. Mary’s University.|
Each of the eight teams started the week with a visit to a local elementary or middle school (see Kids Impact story). More than 150 2nd-6th graders received skill instruction at a youth clinic led by WNBA great Marie Ferdinand-Harris and the St. Mary’s University women’s basketball team.
The Texas State Senior Games basketball competition was also held in conjunction with the championship. Prior to their skills contest and 3-on-3 tournament, over 45 women were treated to a free basketball clinic hosted by San Antonio Sports and Marie Ferdinand-Harris. Eleven teams consisting of players 50 and older then went head-to-head throughout the day. Winners were recognized on court at halftime of the NCAA National Championship game.
San Antonio Sports and St. Mary’s University will host the 2013 NCAA DII Women’s Basketball Championship next year too. To see photos from the week, click here.
