NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE RETURNS TO SAN ANTONIO
San Antonio Rampage

March, 2012

The San Antonio Rampage announced today that the Florida Panthers will face off against the Dallas Stars in a National Hockey League (NHL) preseason matchup on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. at the AT&T Center.

“This is a great opportunity to showcase the NHL talent from our affiliate the Florida Panthers and from Texas’ NHL team, the Dallas Stars,” said Spurs Sports and Entertainment President Rick Pych. “Spurs Sports and Entertainment is dedicated to providing the highest caliber sports and entertainment to the San Antonio community and this NHL game will feature some of the best hockey players in the world. For years the Rampage have been developing talented players right here in San Antonio that have gone on to achieve great success in the NHL. This game will exhibit exactly what the Rampage and the American Hockey League is all about, which is seeing the same players who you once saw in San Antonio and other AHL cities now playing at the highest level on teams like the Panthers and Stars.”

The game will feature top NHL talent as the Panthers and the Stars face off in a preseason exhibition leading up to the 2012-13 NHL season. It will be the first NHL matchup to be played at the AT&T Center in the arena’s 10-year history and the third preseason NHL game to be played in San Antonio. The Dallas Stars faced off against the Los Angeles Kings in back-to-back seasons at the Alamodome in 1994 and 1995. The Stars defeated the Kings 3-2 on September 27, 1994 with 14,342 fans in attendance. The following year Dallas claimed a 4-2 victory over the Kings in front of 8,122 hockey fans on September 26, 1995. Hockey Hall of Fame forward Wayne Gretzky participated in both prior preseason matchups.

The Florida Panthers are excited about playing an NHL pre-season game in San Antonio, the home of our AHL affiliate,” said Rampage General Manager Mike Santos. “This game will provide San Antonio Rampage fans the opportunity to experience NHL hockey up close.”

The Panthers and Stars faced off in two preseason matchups in September 2011 with Dallas claiming both games in the series.  The Rampage serve as the top affiliate of the Florida Panthers and have had 11 players recalled to the Panthers this season.

Tickets for the game go on sale Friday, March 16 and start at $15. For more information visit sarampage.com.
