Rock 'n' Roll Marathon a Winner
Congratulations to all the runners and walkers who completed the annual Rock 'n' Roll San Antonio Marathon & 1/2 Marathon and our sincere thanks to the more than 4,000 local citizen-volunteers.

The event attracted about 28,000 participants, 66 percent of them from outside San Antonio, representing all 50 states and 27 countries. It remains a huge draw for the city and is the largest road race in Texas. Direct visitor spending associated with the marathon is expected to be similar to last year, which was $26.1 million with a total economic impact of $41.5 million. Most important, the marathon has been a catalyst for fitness in our community. Each year, the number of local participants has risen meaning more of our citizens are training and staying healthy year 'round. Our mission is to transform our community through the power of sport. The Rock 'n' Roll San Antonio Marathon & 1/2 Marathon certainly does that.

Soccer Championship Memorable for Team
The Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops captured the NCAA Division III men’s championship on Saturday, defeating the Calvin Knights, 2-1. Their coach, Jay Martin, now has a spot in NCAA history by becoming the winningest coach in men's college soccer history -- in all divisions -- with 608 career victories. The tournament was also memorable for the Ohio team when their van was burglarized just after arriving in San Antonio. Thousands of dollars in computers, cell phones, wallets, cash and clothes were stolen when thieves broke into two of the vans. But the team’s resolve was unshaken ultimately leading to their championship.

The Messiah Falcons (23-0-1) won their fourth NCAA women's championship by beating the Wheaton (Ill.) Thunder 3-1.

This is the third year the NCAA Division III Men’s & Women’s Soccer Championship has been co-hosted by San Antonio Sports and Trinity University. It will return in 2012.

Thanks to Don Strange Catering
Coaches, NCAA personnel and Big 12 officials enjoyed the hospitality area at the Big 12 Women’s Soccer Championship in November. They were treated to some delicious Lone Star fare from Don Strange of Texas who has donated snacks and party trays to the tournament for many years. Thanks!
