Welcome to the Dress for Success San Antonio newsletter. We want to thank you for taking the time to support our organization whether through the company you work for or through your individual donations.
As we bid farewell to another record breaking summer heatwave, we want to remind everyone that the needs of the women we serve do not disappear. Each day we welcome into our agency, new women with their stories of struggle and hardship, some with only the clothes on their back, and we help them. We work hard to help these women and their families not only secure employment, but stay employed. For many Americans this has been a very tough year, perhaps even the toughest on record. For individuals who were already suffering the effects of poverty, it has been devastating. With a stagnating economy, the future for some people may seem bleak, but here at Dress for Success San Antonio, we provide our women with the skills they need to survive and thrive.

In RememberanceWith over twenty years of experience working with the children of San Antonio. Graciela's road led her to our doorway. A survivor of cancer, Graciela had a special heart and ear for the women she worked with. Ever ready to lend a shoulder to cry on or to take your hand to share a prayer of support, she inspired so many with her leadership of the Professional Women's Group.
On September 8th, the staff at Dress for Success San Antonio held a memorial service for our dear friend. Friends, clients and family came together to celebrate the life of Graciela and to share the stories of hope that she inspired in so many of the people that knew her.

In 2001, Dr. Karen Kuhlthau and Dr. James Perrin published an article titled "Child Health Status and Parental Employment" in the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine showing a direct link between children's health and the employment status of parents. We invite you to follow the above link and learn for yourself why it is so important that we help our women re-establish themselves in the workforce. Beyond the economic measures of employment, we are helping to foster a healthier child.
