FLASH! San Antonio Area Foundation appoints new CEO
San Antonio Area Foundation

May, 2011

The San Antonio Area Foundation Board of Directors  has named Dennis E. Noll, a seasoned member of San Antonio’s corporate community, to fill the foundation’s top position of president and chief executive officer later this year. The announcement was made by Sarah E. Harte, chair of the Board, who led a search committee over the past several months to recruit new leadership for the position being vacated by Clarence. R. “Reggie” Williams, who retires this year.  Noll will assume his new position on August 15, 2011.

“We are so pleased to have identified a leader of Dennis’ caliber right here in San Antonio,” Harte said, adding that Noll’s familiarity with San Antonio will ensure a smooth transition into the role with little disruption to the foundation’s ongoing work. “We won’t miss a beat,” she said.  “Dennis’ extensive corporate and foundation experience make him an exceptionally good fit for the leadership role at the foundation.”

Noll retired from Kinetic Concepts, Inc. in 2007 after 15 years with the company, where he was senior vice president and general counsel. He played an important role in growing KCI’s revenue to $1.3 billion during that time and led the successful legal team that prevailed in the company’s protracted patent and antitrust litigation. He was also very community-conscious during his time at the company, and created and led the Servant’s Heart Foundation- KCI’s “Internal United Way.” Prior to joining KCI, Noll was a partner at Cox Smith, where he chaired the firm’s Corporate and Securities Department for six years. Noll graduated summa cum laude in 1976 from St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, with a degree in Philosophy.  He earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law School in 1980.

“In the current economic climate, and with state and federal budget cuts that require everyone to do more with less, the role of the San Antonio Area Foundation becomes more and more important.” Noll said. “In taking on the challenges that come with the leadership of a major community resource, I am pleased – and honored – to be in a role that enables me to put my skills and experience to work for our community. San Antonio is a community that welcomed me from the very start and I am excited about what the future will bring.”

Harte credited Williams, who served as president and chief executive officer since 2000, as having done an outstanding job in leading the Area Foundation in creating philanthropic partnerships with individuals and the San Antonio business and civic community, creating community initiatives and outreach and significantly growing the Area Foundation.  “Reggie did a remarkable job of broadening awareness of the Area Foundation and increasing the understanding of the vital role a community foundation can play in a city like San Antonio,” she said.

Prior to joining the Area Foundation, Williams was senior vice president of Information Systems Operations at USAA, after his retirement from the United States Air Force as a colonel. Williams also served as district governor of Rotary International District 5840 in 2010.
