Clinic's growth comes with a price
Amy Holcomb, RN - Clinic Nurse Manager
The growth of the GRACE Outreach to Health Community Clinic has been nothing short of astounding over the last two years. We went from serving 236 patients in 2008, to more 1,000 in 2010! The clinic continues adding an average of about 20 new patients a month with most patients suffering with more than one disease process. Some patients have lost their jobs and no longer have insurance. Some have a job, but not enough available hours to be considered full-time; so they don't qualify for benefits. The GRACE Clinic stands in this void to help manage medical care for anyone in Grapevine, Southlake, and Colleyville who finds themselves in this situation.
One such gentleman, who recently became a patient, had been receiving care through an insurance plan and had lost his coverage. He suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol issues. He came to us already on several medications which, for a three month supply, cost $5,000! Through the clinics Prescription Outreach Program, we are able to help provide him with these same medications for only $350.00! While this is a tremendous savings for the patient, it is a large negative impact on the Clinic budget. Since the number of clinic patients is expected to continue to grow, the strain on the clinics already thin budget will increase as well. And while the Clinic staff takes great pride in being very creative and inventive in finding resources, we need additional help to keep up with the rising demand.
If you're already a GRACE donor, we thank you for your support, but ask you to consider digging a little deeper to help us meet this growing need. If you've not yet made a financial commitment to help the less fortunate in our community, there's no better time than now. Your gift will positively impact the lives of our neighbors through the successful programs of GRACE and the GRACE Clinic. And, you'll have a head start on deductions for the 2011 tax season!

Volunteers are the Heart of GRACE!
The annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon was held yesterday at the Hilton DFW Lakes and a great crowd was on hand. If you weren't there, you didn't get a chance to pick up one of our new "Volunteers are the Heart of GRACE" t-shirts. We have a limited number of extra large and medium sized shirts remaining for the great price of $10. If there is enough interest, we will order more shirts, so if you are interested in purchasing one, click here to send us an email and include the size you'd like. These shirts are 100% cotton, but are "pre-shrunk" and available in sizes from small to xxxl.
Next week, we'll give you a complete wrap-up of the event with photos and award winners, so be sure to keep an eye on your inbox!
GRACE MVP: Pam Goldmann
|Pam Goldmann |
At the monthly staff meeting last week, Pam Goldmann was announced as the GRACE MVP for the first quarter of 2011. Below is how her nominators described her in the forms they submitted.
"Pam was nominated for the award for a number of reasons. She has been part of the GRACE team for a number of years as both a volunteer and an employee, and in numerous capacities. Her passion for the GRACE Mission is evident as she offers to help in numerous ways and in any way she can - whether it is in her own office, in another office or on a committee she has signed up to be part of. Her knowledge is invaluable and you can count on Pam as both a colleague and as a friend. You are guaranteed at least a smile, if not a good laugh, when she shows up in your office because she likes to have fun and makes it contagious."
