Did you know?

There is no fee to adopt from the foster care system! Whether you are working directly with the State or with a private nonprofit agency, it does not matter – none of these agencies will charge you a fee to adopt.

Many of you have probably heard that it costs $25,000 to adopt a child…or something along those lines. That does not apply to adoptions from the foster care system!

Here is a thought –

How about making a donation in honor of a family that adopted? It is a great adoption gift to them, and it helps keep the work going!

Welcome Bruce Thompson!

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and a great 2011! The Adoption Coalition of Texas is kicking of this year with a big change – welcome to our new Executive Director, Bruce Thompson. Bruce has worked in the foster care world for many years and brings a vast array of experience. We are looking forward to his leadership as we progress through 2011 and years to come.

Bruce can be reached at brucethompson@adopttexas.org. Join me in welcoming Bruce to such an incredible organization with a fantastic group of supporters!

All of you have touched my heart in one way or another, and I will continue to advocate and recruit for waiting children, I will always be part of this cause.

To a wonderful 2011!!

Respectfully,

The Heart Gallery of Central Texas

Mark your calendars for January 14th. We are once again honored that the Cultural Activities Center in Temple is hosting The 2010 Heart Gallery of Central Texas. Please join us for the opening reception on the 14th from 7p-9p. If you can’t make it to the opening reception, stop by and check it out. The Cultural Activities Center usually displays the exhibit for a few weeks. (Call first to make sure it is still there)

Year End Donations ~

Thank you once again to everyone who donate their time and/or money to the Adoption Coalition of Texas. KNOW that you are making a difference in the futures of children who have been abused and neglected, and who are now simply waiting for a forever family, someone to claim them as their own.

Thank you!

Kids Corner – Meet Robert (12)

New 8 Austin – Forever Families Segment – January 9, 2011

(Sorry, I couldn’t copy the picture from the News 8 Website, click on the link above to see Robert, and to watch his story)

Robert says drawing is one of his favorite things to do. He has quite the imagination. He used it to draw a combined bear and eagle, what he called a "beargle."

Robert opened up about his personality.

"Sometimes I'm shy but sometimes I'm not. Mostly I like to do things I haven't done before," he said.

Robert is adventurous, loves water slides and said he would like to try sky diving some day. One adventure Robert is waiting to start is life with a family.

"I have to go from one place to another all the time," he said.

In his 12 years of life he's had to move more than half a dozen times. Robert yearns for a home he can grow up in, along with a family he can call his own and have fun with.

On the Horizon

Keep your eyes peeled for news about our upcoming Meet & Greet, Match Party in March. All CPS case workers will be present from Central Texas to talk about the kids. We will also have representatives from our partner agencies present to talk about foster care and adoption.
