We are pleased to announce that Backyard Monsters has been extended one more day. So, if you are out and about on Monday, January 3, drop by for a last look at the giant bugs.Then, get ready for something really amazing this spring when the Witte presents Amazon Voyage: Vicious Fishes and Other Riches. Your entire family will delight in this colorful, alive and interactive exhibit. Make plans to visit often in 2011 for many fun learning adventures.

Amazon Voyage: Vicious Fishes and Other Riches

February 5 through September 5, 2011

All aboard! The voyage down the largest river in the world is about to begin at the Witte Museum. Take an exciting journey through the diverse ecosystems, the vicious creatures known as the Seven Perils and the amazing people who inhabit the Amazon River. This journey is alive! Visitors will also have the opportunity to watch live piranha feed, try to spot the camouflaged stingrays in their sandy tanks, crawl into an underwater viewing tunnel of a tetra fish tank and see several other species of live fish and other animals from the Amazon.

Welcome to the jungle.

Amazon Voyage: Vicious Fishes and Other Riches was produced by the Miami Science Museum. The exhibit was made possible with support from the National Science Foundation. Artwork by Ray Troll. Amazon Voyage at the Witte Museum is generously supported by the San Antonio Express-News, the George and Fay Young Foundation, Tesoro, the San Antonio River Authority, True Flavors, and the City of San Antonio Office of Cultural Affairs. Tropical animals and animal care are generously provided by the San Antonio Zoological Association.

Archaeology Fair

Friday, January 7 and Saturday, January 8 | 10 a.m.-2 p.m



The Archaeological Institute of America, in collaboration with the Witte Museum, is hosting its Annual Archaeology Fair at the Witte Museum. The fair brings together re-enactors, musicians, historians and archeologists from all over the country who provide hands-on activities and learning experiences designed to give students and families a glimpse into the past and explore the many aspects of archaeology. Come live in the past for a couple of days! Included with museum admission.

Witte Society Membership Kick-Off Party

Friday, January 21, 7-10 p.m.


This annual party is an opportunity for current Witte Society members and those interested in this membership level to hear about the events and activities planned for the upcoming year. Witte Society is a level of membership that includes all of the same great benefits of regular membership plus five extra parties a year. This entertaining evening features catering by Absolutely Delicious, beer, wine and live music, and is one of the three Witte Society’s adult-only events (21 and older please). The Witte Society also hosts two family parties annually in June and August. Reservations are required. Please call Tisha Cortines at 357-1922 or email to TishaCortines@WitteMuseum.org.
