Psychology Beyond Borders (PBB) is seeking project proposals for the 2011 PBB Mission Awards.  PBB is an international non-profit organization focusing on the psychosocial impacts of terror attacks, armed conflicts, and natural disasters.  Psychology Beyond Borders has identified a number of specific focus areas requiring significant support to advance this mission, and the annual PBB Mission Award program is designed to support research and service projects that fit into these areas.

FOCUS AREAS FOR 2011 AWARDS

  1. Repetitive and chronic exposure to disaster and mass trauma, including research into the effects of repeated exposure and specific intervention methods for repeatedly exposed populations.
  2. The role of economic loss or empowerment in psychosocial issues following traumatic events, including research on the role of financial stress in post-disaster recovery and the impact of small or large-scale development programs in recovery.
  3. Preparedness and resilience, including research and service projects designed to teach and evaluate programs to prepare people for disasters and improve resilience, and including resilience-building programs delivered in the aftermath of an event.
  4. Prevention, including research and service programs aimed at peacebuilding and nonviolent conflict resolution.

PROJECT FUNDING AND DURATION

Projects of $5,000 - $15,000 (USD) will be funded with an expected project duration of one year (beginning January 2011). So that more projects may be funded, preference will be given to projects with smaller budgets that focus on a specific population or intervention (if applicable).
ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must be affiliated with a university or non-profit organization. PBB encourages applications from international organizations or individuals who represent diversity.
