May, 2010

The San Antonio Farmers Market Association returns to theSan AntonioBotanical Garden Thursday, May 6. Offering an enticing selection of fresh fruits and vegetables for sale, the Farmers Market will be open every Thursday from 8:00 a.m. till 1:00 p.m.

The farmers, who are registered with Texas Department of Agriculture, come from Bexar and surrounding counties. Selling only their own local produce, these farmers utilize little or no pesticide in their farming. By selling locally, they ensure the freshest, most delicious fruits and vegetables at great prices, with minimal impact on the environment.

Shoppers will be amazed at the varieties available throughout the year – from herbs, beans, and berries to tomatoes, peaches, watermelons, and apples; from squash, corn, and onions to jams and preserves. Visitors will find all this produce sold by friendly, knowledgeable vendors. Stop by the Farmers Market at theSan AntonioBotanical Garden, pick some fresh produce and support your local farmers!

In addition to fruits and vegetables, visitors can choose from a selection of San Antonio-friendly plants cultivated by the San Antonio Botanical Society Plant Team of Volunteers on Farmer’s Market days during the best planting seasons of May - July and September - October. Budding gardeners as well as seasoned horticulturists can select from a wide variety of plants and receive gardening advice from these experts!
