(Republic of Texas Museum, Austin, TX)- We cordially invite the public to attend the Republic of Texas Museum’s Open House and Museum Art Contest Awards Presentation on Saturday March 20, 2010 from 2:00 to 5:00. All admission fees will be waived this day.
The newly installed exhibit, “A Texas Childhood” is also open at the Republic of Texas Museum. This exhibit will feature children’s toys, clothing, books, and photographs centered on growing up in Texas during the Republic period, and up to the turn of the century. This exhibit will be featured alongside the Museum’s other permanent exhibits, which include the Gun Room, which displays Santa Anna’s dueling pistols, one of Santa Anna’s dining room chairs from his palace in Mexico, an exhibit of Texas Renaissance man, Swante Palm, dioramas constructed for the Texas Centennial in 1936, a Pioneer Wagon and “Great-Grandma’s Backyard”, a hands on activity room for children.
The Republic of Texas Museum strives “to preserve the heritage of the Republic of Texas historic period and to educate the public about the history and culture of that time”.
