DOWNTOWN RUN-WALK SET TO BENEFIT SAMMINISTRIES
SAMMinistries

February, 2010

Two local and avid runners, Elizabeth Rosenblum and Megan Cullip, are hosting Street 2 Feet 5K  Run/Walk and Kidz’ 400 meters on Saturday, February 20th to increase awareness about the homeless population in San Antonio and to raise funds for SAMMinistries.

The Street 2 Feet 5K Run/Walk begins on the corner of Buena Vista and Frio Streets downtown at 8:00 a.m. with the kids’ 400 meter race beginning at

9:15 a.m. The cost for adults is $20 up until February 18, and then it is $25 thereafter. The cost for kids is $10 until February 18, and then it is $15 thereafter.  Interested participants may register online by visiting www.active.com, or by visiting the SAMMinistries web site, www.samm.org and click on “Upcoming Events.”

Those wishing to register in-person may do so by paying with a check or cash at Roger Soler’s Sports (5933 Broadway); Run Gear Run (18720 Stone Oak Parkway Suite #150); Fleet Feet Sports (6408 North New Braunfels), or Run Wild Sports (300 East Grayson).

Registration packets may be picked up before race day on Friday, February 19th from 2:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Run Gear Run. All participants will receive a race free t-shirt and snacks during the race.

According to Jose Iniguez, race director, this affordable 5K is one of the few that goes through downtown and it is the only race to pass in front of the Alamo. “Only the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Marathon are held downtown, plus they are much more expensive,” he says.

The Street 2 Feet 5K Run/Walk appropriately begins near the existing SAMMinistries Emergency Shelter and will end at their future location on the Haven for Hope campus.

Sponsors for the race include Flasher Equipment Company, Run Gear Run, Tesoro, HEB and Spectrum. For more information on the Street 2 Feet 5K Run/Walk, visit samm.org or www.active.com.
