Demographics & the Economy
The latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) on unemployment rates have been added for all states and the nation for December 2009.
- Food Stamp Program
The most recent information from the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service on monthly food stamp enrollment is now available for all states and the nation for October 2009.
- State Fiscal Distress
New data on states with projected budget shortfalls for fiscal year (FY) 2011 have been added and are available from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP). Also updated are aggregate state rankings in foreclosures, unemployment, and food stamp participation with the latest data from the BLS and the USDA.
- State Budgets
Updated data on total state spending from the National Association of State Budget Officers (NASBO) for state fiscal year (SFY) 2008 have been added. SFY 2008 data are also available for per capita spending and the distribution of general fund expenditures, including Medicaid’s share of general fund spending.
- Sexually Transmitted Diseases
Data on sexually transmitted diseases from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have been added and include the total number of Chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis cases; and the rate of reported Chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis cases per 100,000 population by gender for 2008.
- Tobacco Dependence Treatment under Medicaid
New information from the American Lung Association on the coverage of tobacco dependence treatment under Medicaid is now available for all states and the nation for 2009.

- Medicaid and CHIP Enrollment Practices and Premiums
New information from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) and the Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured (KCMU) on waiting periods for children enrolling in Medicaid and CHIP has been added for 2009 for all states and the nation. Also added are 2009 data on premiums and co-payments for children in Medicaid and CHIP.
- State Medicaid Spending
Updated state-by-state data on state Medicaid expenditures for SFY 2008 are now available from the National Association of State Budget Officers (NASBO).
- Medicare Advantage Plan Quality
New 2010 information on the share of Medicare Advantage enrollees in plans receiving four or more stars according to the CMS quality rating system is now available for all states.
Managed Care & Health Insurance
- High Risk Pools
The latest data from Georgetown University’s Health Policy Institute on state high risk pool programs are available for all states and the nation. New data on total enrollment in high risk pools, high risk pool costs, and high risk pool premium subsidies have been added and are available for December 2008. Also available is updated information as of January 2010 on state high risk pool eligibility requirements, premiums, rating rules, coverage benefits, and plan options for all states.
- Family Planning and Perinatal Services Under Medicaid
New information from the Kaiser Family Foundation and the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services on family planning and perinatal services covered under Medicaid has been added and is available for 2009 for all states. New Medicaid coverage information for family planning services including sterilization; infertility care; STD testing; the emergency contraceptive pill; and the HPV vaccine is now available. Information on perinatal services covered under Medicaid, including delivery care, education services, and genetic screening and counseling is also available.
The latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the number of abortions, abortion rate, and the distribution of abortions by age and race have been added for all states and the nation for 2006.
