One Star Foundation

January, 2010

OneStar Foundation: Texas Center for Social Impact is directing Texans to resources that can help them participate in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on January 18, 2010. These resources can help individuals as well as organizations plan or join service projects and volunteer opportunities.

As the State Service Commission, OneStar Foundation believes that service and volunteerism are viable and serious strategies for addressing the needs of our state. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the first national service day of the year, is an important opportunity for Texans to strengthen their communities through volunteering. This day benefits communities and assists nonprofit organizations while also giving volunteers the opportunity to witness the amazing effects that service can create.

The following Web sites can be used to locate MLK Jr. Day volunteer opportunities, announce service projects, recruit volunteers, find organizations to collaborate with and more:

  • Serve.gov refers visitors to Web sites where they can locate service projects. It also has a list of Web sites through which visitors can post volunteer opportunities.
  • MLKDay.gov has background information on MLK Jr. Day and marketing resources for those planning service projects.
  • MLKMobilization.org contains online tools to help project organizers rally their community around their projects.
