Cook Children's launches $50 million capital campaign
Around Texas

October, 2009

Cook Children’s Medical Center launched a $50 million capital campaign Tuesday night to help pay for its latest expansion and announced that it has $34.5 million already in hand, including the two largest philanthropic gifts ever made to the health system.

The Dodson Foundation, established in the last year by a Fort Worth woman who has given extensively to Cook, contributed $10 million. The money will go toward ensuring that "her medical center can expand to meet the needs of the smallest and most vulnerable patients in the region," Cook said.

Additionally, the Jane and John Justin Foundation donated $8 million, which will expand the hospital’s neurodiagnostic center — created by another gift from the foundation — into "the largest and most comprehensive pediatric neurosciences center" in the Southwest, Cook said. The center will bear the names of the late industrialist, known for Justin Boots, and his wife.
