McAllen, TX, - On Saturday, September 12, 2009, the first Kick’n Kids Cancer Radiothon will hit the airwaves on News/Talk 710 KURV, La Ley 102.5 & 92.7 FM and Digital 101.5 FM. The Radiothon will broadcast live from the Vannie E. Cook Jr. Children’s Cancer and Hematology Clinic in McAllen. Listen to incredible stories of the children from our community who face cancer each day. Volunteers will be answering calls for donations and pledges from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm. A goal of $50,000 has been set for the event.
“September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. During this time of the year when we honor the survivors and remember those that lost the battle, we want to reach out to the community and inform the public that there is a growing need for pediatric cancer treatment in our region,” said Juan Carlos Bernini, Medical Director, Vannie Cook Clinic. “Although overall survival rates have increased, local children are being diagnosed with cancer at alarming rates. We hope that the Kick’n Kids Cancer Radiothon will help us raise much-needed awareness and funding so that these kids have a chance at life.”
The Vannie E. Cook Jr. Children’s Cancer and Hematology Clinic, a joint effort of the Vannie E. Cook Jr. Cancer Foundation, Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Cancer Center, treats hundreds of new patients each year and is the only comprehensive pediatric cancer treatment facility in South Texas.
