For the 3rd year in a row, 102.3 The River, along with the Adoption Coalition of Texas, are partnering for the Stuff the Bus, Back to School drive where they collect new backpacks and donations and provide foster children with items they need to start the school year off right.
On Friday, August 21st, The River will be doing a live remote at The Grove at South Park Meadows. We will be there all day collecting backpacks (6am – 7pm). Stop by and visit – drop off a new backpack!!! (Watch KXAN morning news, they have already confirmed they are coming out to cover it). They will collect the backpacks on the 21st and distribute to kids on the 22nd. Each backpack will be stuffed with school supplies. We are still working out the location for the backpack distribution, but it will happen, probably about noon. So, if you are a foster family, case worker, child placing agency, or shelter and want to bring your kids to pick up back packs on the 22nd, please RSVP to Alexandra at the Adoption Coalition - 512-687-3208 (we’ve set up a special line for RSVPs). Make sure if you leave a message to say it is for the back pack pick up on the 22nd. As in years past, they will only be able to accommodate 150 the day of the event. I am sure they will have many more backpacks, and will be happy to get them to agencies and shelters after the distribution.
In addition, all area Wendy’s Restaurants are accepting backpack donations through the 21st. Stop in at any Wendy’s!!
This year, they have some new exciting partners –
o Lewis Shanks – you can drop off a backpack anytime between now and the 21st and get 50% of in stock items (good only with the donation)
o Chili’s Restaurants – On August 17th, Monday, if you eat at the Chili’s at South Park Meadows, Stassney or Round Rock after 4pm, 10% of the proceeds from the night are going to be donated to this effort!! So take the family out to dinner!!
o Chic Fil-A will be giving away various food items throughout the day at the live remote (August 21)
They need volunteers to help us accept and sort backpacks on the 21st. If you can participate, please let Alexandra know at 512-687-3208. They are asking volunteers to help out in 4 hour shifts (but we’ll take any help!!)
(You can also reach Alexandra at Alexandra.firstname.lastname@example.org (although the phone is preferred).
