 NOTE FROM JULIE

true north As I was observing our summer campers in action during Animal Clinic, one of the campers told me “I hope my eyeball doesn't roll off the table." She was dissecting a cow's eyeball, and for the first time understanding how all the parts of the eye fit together and work. I was so impressed by her curiosity and willingness to explore unknown territory, and she is only 10 years old! When I was her age I wasn't learning the structure of the eye, but it certainly would have helped me in my 10th grade anatomy class!

At Girlstart summer camps, elementary and middle school girls explore careers in veterinary science, organic chemistry, and Ornithology (which is the study of birds) at an early age. And the Girlstart method works! Last week 99% of participants reported an increased awareness of the importance of higher education as a way to broaden their career options and 97% of participants experienced increased confidence in doing science, technology and mathematics activities. Girlstart is made possible by generous donors like YOU! Please consider making a gift today to help Girlstart continue to make a difference for girls in science, math and technology!

Interim Executive Director, Girlstart
